6. 3. INVERSION IN CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TYPE II a, Tobe Eg1: If I were a doctor, I could take care of the sick. → Were I a doctor, I could take care of the sick. Were + S + , S + would could +(not) + V(bare inf ) + might a, Ordinary verbs Eg2: If I learnt Russian, I would read a Russian book. => Were I to learn Russian, I would read a Russian book. Were + S + to + V(bare inf )+ , S + would could +(not) + V(bare inf )+ might 1. If I were you, I wouldn’t come here. → Were I you, I wouldn’t come here. 2. If he had much money, he would travel around the world. → Were he to have much money, he would travel around the world.
7. 4. INVERSION IN CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TYPE III Eg: If he had tried his best, he would have passed the exams. => Had he tried his best, he would have passed the exams. Had + S + PII + , S + would could (not) + have + PII + . should 1. If we had lost our way, we wouldn’t have arrived sooner. => Had we lost our way, we wouldn’t have arrived sooner. 2. She would have stayed at home if it had rained. => She would have stayed at home had it rained.
8. 5. INVERSION IN MIXED CONDITIONAL SENTENCE : Eg: If I had taken his advice, I would be rich now. => Had I taken his advice, I would be rich now. Had + S + PII + , S + would could (not) + V(bare inf )+ . might Eg: If he had gone to school yesterday, he could understand the lesson now. => Had he gone to school yesterday, he could understand the lesson now.
9. Note : Ở dạng phủ định, “not” được đặt sau chủ ngữ: Eg1: If it hadn’t been so late, we would have called you. Had it not been so late, we would have called you. Eg2: If you don’t study hard, you won’t pass the next exams. Should you not study hard, you won’t pass the next exams. Eg3: You would be late for school if you didn’t get up early. You would be late for school were you not to get up early.
10. Types Forms Inversion in conditional sentences ZERO: Hành động If+ S + V (simple present Should + S + (not)+ V (bare inf ), luôn đúng hoặc sự tense)+ , thật hiển nhiên. S + V (simple present tense)+ S + V (simple present tense)+ Type I: Tình huống có If +S + V (present tenses)+ , Should + S + (not)+ V (bare inf ), thể xảy ra ở hiện tại S + will/can + V (bare inf )+ S + will/can + V (bare inf )+ hoặc tương lai.
