- Date of planning : October 26th , 2017 Date of teaching : October 31st , 2017 ENGLISH 12 Unit 5: HIGHER EDUCATION Period 30 : A. READING I. OBJECTIVES: 1. Educational aim: - By the end of the lesson, they can read the new words correctly and do the tasks that follow correctly and exactly - Develop students’ reading skills (skimming and scanning) 2. Knowledge: ( Language , Structures , New words ). - General knowledge: - To help students practise reading skill and widen knowledge about higher education - Lexical items / Language: +Verbs in past tense, +Words related to higher education: campus , scary, challenge 3. Skills : -Reading ( skimming and scanning) - Writing and speaking II. METHOD: - Mainly communicative approach and other suitable methods . III. TEACHING AIDS: • Teacher : A lesson plan , poster , pictures of university, feelings, • Students : -Look up some new words. -Reading the given information and translate them into Vietnamese -Guess the answers IV. PROCEDURE: TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES *Stabilization:( 1minute) -T gives some questions -Listen and answer 1. Good morning class 1. Good morning teacher 2. Is the weather nice today? 2. Yes or No 3. Who is absent today? 3.The monitors of class 12A4 report * Warm-up: (3 minutes) - Show some pictures of some Universities in - Work individually Vietnam and ask some questions about them - Answer freely - Ask Ss to work in pairs, ask and answer the following questions: 1. How do you say in English the names of these universities? - Listen 2. What university would you like to apply for and - Copy down why? 1. Hue University - Get feedback. 2. Hanoi University of Architecture - Give Ss suggested answers 3. Hanoi University of Natural Science 4. I would like to apply for Hanoi University of - Lead in the new lesson: Some of you will become Natural Science. students soon and you’ll know the feelings in the first year. Today we will read about three English students talk about their first impressions of university life.
- I. While-reading: ( 25 minutes) - Play the disk once - Ask Ss to read the text in silence - Listen to the tape Task 2: - Introduce the task: Find out who - Read the text in silence, then do Task 2 - Devide the class into groups of three - Work in groups of three - Guide students practise skimming skill to get main -Practise skimming skill idea - Give them 3 minutes to do the Task - Call 3 students to give the answers (random) * Expected answers: a. attended a party on the first weekend at college. b. didn't get on very well with the roommate. Brenden thought the first year at college was the best and most challenging of his life. 5. It provides him plenty of opportunities to meet non-engineering students as well as other engineers and many of them have - Correct mistakes become his best friends. - Ask them to translate the answers -Gives marks - Marks: 12A4 III.
